getting data from a portable hard drive

Hey all,
Is there any way to get data from an external hard drive that has stopped being shown by windows or the mac? The drive fell and now doesn't show on anything. It acts like it's connecting but nothing pops up

consider the harddrive bust mate. Unless you wanna pay a couple hundred quid to get it recovered in a shop
